IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME part 1
by Tim A. Best
IBS is defined as- An irritative and inflammatory
condition of the small and-or large intestines' mucous
membranes, which creates small areas of pocket- like
formations.
Several types of inflammatory conditions are:
ENTERITIS and ILEITIS- conditions within the small intestine, which can coincide with colitis.
ULCERATIVE COLITIS- this situation involves severe
inflammation existing with ulceration of the lining.
CROHNS DISEASE- an inflammation of the lower portion of the small intestine, called the ileum. This condition may manifest from the stomach to the anus
and can also mimic many of the conditions of colitis.
As bad as these diseases sound, they can come with
baggage. Nausea, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation,
fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, depression, anxiety, reduced attention span, bloody stools, excessive bowel movements, the sweats, fevers and in
severe cases fissures, abscesses and hemorrhoids.
For reasons not fully understood, some components may co-exist with colitis or contribute to the condition.
These are bacteria, viruses, amoebas, parasites, stress,
obsessive worry, job and marital tensions, diet, food allergies, smoking, alcohol, drugs (recreational and
medical), physical fitness, death of a loved one, family
history, gall bladder abnormalities, skin rashes, kidney
stones and vitamin deficiencies caused by medications
or malabsorption...
